Florida Title Transfers: Documents Needed

Please bring the following documents for Florida Title Transfers:

  • Florida Title properly completed by buyers and seller
  • The person or person(s) appearing on the title as buyer needs to be present. Regardless if title reads and/or, if both parties cannot be present an form 82040 or power of attorney must be completed for the individual unable to be present.
  • Proof of Florida insurance on new vehicle
  • Driver License
  • Plate number if transferring a plate

Out of State Title Transfer: Documents Needed

Please bring the following documents for Out of State Title Transfers:

  • Vehicle Title or address of lien holder (state registration if title isn't available).
  • Vehicle or Form HSMV-82042 (ID Verification) (form completely filled out).
  • Registered owners must be present, or bring Form HSMV-82040 (Application for Title).
  • Proof of Florida insurance (card, policy, or binder). Proof of insurance must be for this vehicle and must show an effective date equal to or before the date of registration. If none of these are available, an affidavit can be downloaded and completed. The State of Florida requires that each motorist carry a minimum of $10,000 Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Property Damage Liability Insurance on all motor vehicles (not including trailers and motorcycles).  Driver license and registration will be suspended immediately if the insurer denies the insurance information submitted for the registration.
  • Valid ID (Driver's License or Valid Passport).
  • Bill of sale or invoice if the vehicle was purchased less than 6 months ago. Florida sales tax may be applicable.

  • All leased vehicles require a Power of Attorney from the leasing company in order for the lessee to sign the title application.
  • Florida Sales Tax Exempt Number on lease vehicles.

Out of State Title Transfer (Recent Dealership Purchase): Documents Needed

Please bring the following documents if you recently went out of state to purchase a vehicle from an out of state dealership:

  • Complete Form 82040 - Application for Title - for RVs leave Vehicle Type blank
  • Out of state title and bill of sale from dealer (RV-need Certificate of Origin)
  • Federal odometer disclosure from dealer
  • VIN verification by law enforcement on Form 82042 verifying they have inspected the VIN and list VIN, make, model and year of vehicle
  • If sales tax collected is the same as Florida, no additional sales tax is due
  • If you do not have a Florida Drivers License - copy of out of state license
(Many out of state dealers will mail us your paperwork to title your vehicle in Florida)
